Using a credit card off base

Postby nikki on Sat Feb 06, 2010 5:09 pm

So I went shopping offbase today, my first weekend here with a car, and bought some stuff at Joyful Honda. Each time I used my credit card the cashier would hold up her index finger and ask, "one?" Anybody know what she's asking me about?

Here Japanese have an option of "1" or "2". 1 means charge the full amount as you would normally do in the US, and 2 means split it in 2 payments. This would charge your card 50% now and the rest next month. Don't try for "2" because it wont work.

Not to mention the split option incurs a small fee.

Just always say 1.

Also keep in mind that many banks charge an international transaction fee. Mine charges 1%...
